What We Do
At Obsidian Technology, our goal is to fill in the gaps between other repair and technological services.
Our primary work is advanced board repair, restoring data from and functionality to devices that other shops generally aren’t equipped to handle. We can help with electronics that have been spilled on, dropped, exposed to fire, smoke, and other hostile environments, or that have fried out or otherwise stopped working on their own accord.
Vintage and legacy technologies are also a specialty of ours! We’ve been in this field for a long time, and so we’re familiar with the obscure approaches that older technology might require and love to offer that expertise to folks finding value in relatively ancient devices and the data that they may contain.
We also handle one-off electronics repairs and modifications, offering work on niche devices that most other businesses aren’t willing to address.
With us, every project is personal from the beginning. If you’re invested in an outcome, so are we. Whether your need fits into one of these categories cleanly is immaterial - just reach out and we’ll be happy to discuss anything that you’d like to achieve!
And, as always, if the device is deemed actually or practically irreparable at any point in the process, you will not owe anything more than the initial diagnostic fee that you paid to begin the work. No data? No fix? No balance due.
-
Sometimes you get relatively lucky, all things considered.
This rate is for repairs on any system where a thorough cleaning and/or part swaps are enough to retrieve data from the system.
At this level, the work is all about having an eye for detail as every part is inspected under the microscope and everything that shouldn’t be there is cleared out of the way. Inspect, scrub, rinse, and repeat until the job’s done, and maybe replace a charred USB port or two in the interest of longevity while I’m in there.
Ideally I’ll repair and refurbish the system completely for reliable use into the future. The goal is always for devices to go out looking as close to brand new as possible.
Not all repairs will require parts. You’ll always have an opportunity to approve or deny any substantial additional costs.
-
Sometimes these things end up being a little more complicated than we’d like them to be.
This rate is for board-level repairs on most MacBook Neos, MacBook Airs, and gaming PCs with logic board costs under $800, and includes a thorough cleaning, part swaps, software work, and any standard board-level repairs that are required to retrieve data from the system.
At this level I’ll be probing for shorts, injecting voltage and using thermal cameras and specialized solvents to find problematic components, reballing or swapping out sets of ball-grid array chips, etching away residue and corrosion one pin or contact at a time, and sealing up reworked areas with UV-reactive resins.
Ideally I’ll repair and refurbish the system completely for reliable use into the future. Keeping high technology out of landfills is a tough job, but someone’s gotta do it!
Not all repairs will require parts. You’ll always have an opportunity to approve or deny any substantial additional costs.

Sometimes these things are just straight-up doozies.
This rate is for board-level repairs on most MacBook Pros and gaming PCs with logic board costs exceeding $800, and includes a thorough cleaning, part swaps, software work, and any advanced-to-extreme board-level repairs that are required to retrieve data from the system.
At this level we’re talking about drilling out chunks of the board to remove interplanar shorts, meticulously reconstructing vaporized solder pads, running jumpers to bypass burned vias, and repopulating entire discrete component nets.
Ideally I’ll repair and refurbish the system completely for reliable use into the future. Even in these extreme cases, it can be done. I’m actually typing this out on a MacBook Pro that was spilled on and needed an absurd amount of board-level repair work right now!
Not all repairs will require parts. You’ll always have an opportunity to approve or deny any substantial additional costs.

Got an old iMac you use for Adobe CS5? No problem.
How about a custom client management software running on a Macintosh Classic that won’t power on any longer? We can probably get it up and running again.
Does your entire business depend upon a CNC machine running Windows 98 that’s been fine for decades and just needs to keep on working? We’ve handled plenty of those.
Even a box of floppy disks used with an Apple II containing irreplaceable research would be fair game.
We love this stuff. Just reach out, and we’ll see what we can work out for you! -
